BELLATOR MMA IS BACK! Top Contenders Ricky Bandejas and Sergio Pettis Collide in 135-pound Main Event Title Eliminator | MMA News from Bellator

LOS ANGELES – Bellator MMA returns to action for the first time since the global coronavirus pandemic began earlier this year, bringing the sports world to a standstill. Next Friday, July 24 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., Bellator will deliver an exciting card headlined by two of the bantamweight division's top contenders, as Ricky Bandejas (13-3) faces Sergio Pettis (19-5) in a three-round clash on Paramount Network at 10 p.m. ET.

On March 13, Bellator made the decision to postpone that evening's event at Mohegan Sun Arena for the health and safety of the athletes, staff and everyone involved. Keeping the health and safety of all involved as the top priority, the event on July 24 will be held without fans in attendance.
Bellator 242: Bandejas vs. Pettis airs live on Paramount Network on Friday, July 24 at 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT. Preliminary action will stream on Bellator MMA's YouTube channel at 8:45 p.m. ET/5:45 p.m. PT.
"On July 24, Bellator is back," said Bellator MMA President Scott Coker. "I am thrilled to announce our return event this month at Mohegan Sun, which has always been an incredible venue partner for us. The team has worked tirelessly to make this show happen and I know the fighters are ready to compete. We put together an exciting card with great matchups, featuring some of our best rising prospects. We look forward to our fans joining us on Paramount Network for what will surely be a memorable night of action inside the Bellator cage."
"We're thrilled to welcome back major sports with Bellator MMA for what will be an amazing fight event airing on Paramount Network," said Tom Cantone, President of Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE). "Mohegan Sun has done an incredible job with a comprehensive and extensive safety plan for all guests, team members and partners, and we know our friends at Bellator will really enjoy their stay and have another great experience at our world class arena."
Hailing from Brick, N.J., Ricky Bandejas will return to the cage for the second time in 2020 and sixth overall since signing with Bellator MMA in 2018. Coming off an impressive KO victory over Frans Mlambo at Bellator 240, Bandejas is looking to extend his current winning streak to three and is no stranger to fighting elite competition. With nine of his 13 career wins coming by way of knockout or submission, including four in the first round of action, the heavy-handed 28-year-old will be looking to notch another highlight reel finish on July 24 and earn his shot at the 135-pound world title.
A longtime UFC-veteran, Sergio Pettis made his Bellator debut in January when he submitted Alfred Khashakyan via guillotine a mere three minutes into their bantamweight matchup at The Forum in Los Angeles. Training out of the famed Roufusport gym in Milwaukee alongside his brother, Anthony, and fellow Bellator athlete Emmanuel Sanchez, Pettis won nine of his 14 UFC appearances with victories over Joseph Benavidez, Brandon Moreno and John Moraga. Now, Pettis has his sights set on a world title fight, which is all but guaranteed with a win at Bellator 242.

"He's absolutely brilliant." Dana White praises Jorge Masvidal for taking up the fight against Kamaru Usman at UFC 251.

UFC President Dana White described the top semi-middle weight fighter Jorge Masvidal as "absolutely brilliant" for accepting the fight for the title against UFC 251 champion Kamaru Usman.

Kamaru Usman was supposed to defend the title against Gilbert Burns, but when Burns scored a positive result on the COVID-19 and dropped out, Masvidal came forward and said he wanted to take the fight. The UFC spent the entire weekend bringing Usman vs. Masvidal into the fight, and when the players passed the coronavirus test, the organization officially announced a new UFC 251 evening duel.

Although the Usman vs. Burns duel promised a great fight between the two elite fighters, the fight against Masvidal seems to be even better due to the relationship between the two fighters and their star status at UFC. Over the past few days MMA fans have witnessed Masvidal and the UFC come to an agreement, ending the contractual deadlock between the parties.

Talking to TMZ Sports, Dana White called Masvidal "absolutely brilliant" for the way he slipped into the main fight of the UFC 251 evening after Burns fell out of the card. It's a big change after Masvidal threw thunders at Dan White and the UFC for the low wages of the fighters just a few days ago.

Kamaru Usman defeated Jorge Masvidal by winning by a unanimous decision in the fight of the UFC 251 evening

Kamaru Usman defeated Jorge Masvidal by winning by a unanimous decision in the fight of the UFC 251 evening, retaining his semi-middle weight champion title.

Kamaru Usman's duel (17-1 MMA, 12-0 UFC) with Jorge Masvidal (35-13 MMA, 12-6 UFC) was the main duel of the evening of the first gala, which took place on "Fight Island" on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Masvidal started the fight sharply, but as time passed Usman was gaining the lead and took control in the fifth round. The champion neutralized his rival by doing what was necessary to secure the victory and maintain the title. Usman won all twelve of his fights in UFC and for the second time successfully defended his belt.

Masvidal started the fight with kicks in the leg. Usman intercepted one of them and after the overthrow he took the position from above in full throat, but Masvidal twisted and managed to get back to his stall. "Gamebred" returned to the kicks on his legs and hit him with a couple of targeted blows before Usman entered the clinch. After a brief inspection in the clinch, the fight returned to the middle of Oktagon. Usman was pushing forward, but the blows from the counter caused him some problems.
